NC Office of State Fire Marshal aiding in Hurricane Melissa relief efforts

RALEIGH, NC (WWAY) — The NC Office of State Fire Marshal is taking a leading role in assisting the Jamaica Fire Service as the island recovers from the devastating impact of Hurricane Melissa.
Hurricane Melissa made landfall in Jamaica as a category 5 hurricane.
State Fire Marshal Brian Taylor has been in direct communication with Jamaica Fire Commissioner Stewart Beckford to assess needs and coordinate relief efforts aimed at restoring essential emergency response capabilities in affected communities.
OSFM is collaborating with Samaritan’s Purse, Operation Helo, US Fire Pumps, and private aircraft owners to deliver critical supplies and equipment.
The most urgent needs include 4K Watt generators, chainsaws, protective clothing and gear, and medical supplies.
The Office of State Fire Marshal encourages fire departments across the state to donate.
A shipment will go out on Monday, and donations will be collected at the Statesville Airport.
Departments willing to donate are asked to contact OSFMinfo@ncdoi.gov as soon as possible
