NC university reviewing officer handcuffing assault victim
GREENVILLE, NC (AP) — A North Carolina university is conducting an internal review after one of its white police officers handcuffed a black man who had just been brutally beaten by four white people.
East Carolina University said in a statement it was appalled by the incident, which began at an off campus club March 17 and ended near a dining hall at the school’s Greenville campus.
University officials said in a news conference it was reviewing the actions of the officer, who they did not name.
Greenville police say 26-year-old Patrick Myrick was beaten after he hit a woman in the face and she fell to the ground. Police say Myrick suffered serious injuries and had to go to the hospital.
The four white suspects are charged with felonies.
