NCDMV experiencing license and I.D. card production delays
NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — The North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles is experiencing production delays.
It’s not unusual to experience long lines at the DMV, but now it seems people are waiting for an entirely different reason.
A spokesperson for the NCDMV said the problem stems from an outside source and it is taking longer than the normal 15 days for customers to receive their credentials in the mail.
It’s a printing problem that stems from the private contractor used for production.
WWAY spoke with New Hanover County resident Landon Coine, who renewed his license Tuesday at the DMV off Carolina Beach Rd. in Wilmington.
“Took me all of 5 minutes to renew the license, they said it would show up within 30 days, if it took up to 60, I could send something in, my temporary, and they would send something back to me,” Coine said.
Marty Homan is a spokesperson with the Division of Motor Vehicles. He explained what you can do during this delay.
He said if it’s been more than a month and you still haven’t received your license or I.D., you should follow up with the DMV, Homan said a one-to-two-week wait is normal, past that is not, hence why there is a delay.
“If you get past a month, you can go ahead and give us a call and we will, we will check to see where you are in the process and make sure that you get what you need,” Homan said.
Coine said he doesn’t mind the delay. He said he knows the DMV is doing what they can, with what they have. He offered a piece of advice for those also renewing their license.
“Definitely patience is key, just do it ahead of your expiration date. Have all your paperwork, that’s really important. Just keep it chill,” Coine said.
