NCDOT gives update on major road closures in Brunswick County

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — The state department of transportation gave an update on road closures in Brunswick County on Wednesday.

Division Maintenance Engineer Battle Whitley spoke at a spot on US 17, which is still facing a road closure near Town Creek.

The closure cut off a vital connection in Brunswick County, leaving many drivers stranded.  The major through way is still facing several feet of flooding as of Wednesday.

Whitley said repairs on some roads are already underway.

“As far as timelines go on repair, we’ve already started repairs. In fact, we’re hoping to complete one repair on NC 211 near Southport today,” Whitley said.

As for US 17, Whitley said DOT engineers are still waiting for the water to recede so they can assess any potential damage.
