Neighbors thankful for man who used dump truck to rescue them from flooding

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) — Neighbors in the Monticello subdivision of Baton Rouge are praising one of their own.

Darryles Simmons makes living driving a dump truck, but when floodwaters engulfed his neighborhood, Simmons used his truck and made numerous trips hauling families out of the neighborhood barely staying ahead of the rising floodwaters.

Simmons said he can’t remember how many people he rescued, but he said it was “a lot.” He does remember the kids who were happy to jump into the back of his dump truck in waist deep waters.
