New Hanover Co. Fire Rescue saves stranded paddle boarder and dog near Figure Eight Island

FIGURE EIGHT ISLAND, NC (AP) — A paddle boarder and his dog were safely rescued by New Hanover County Fire Rescue crews Tuesday morning after becoming stranded off the North End of Figure Eight Island.

According to the NHCFR Facebook page, crews from Stations 14 and 16 responded to the scene, where they successfully located and rescued both the man and his dog. The pair was then reunited with their family.

No injuries were reported. The identities of the paddle boarder and the dog have not been released.
