New Hanover County Hispanic-Latino Commission holds emergency meeting about closure of Career Readiness Academy at Mosley
NEW HANOVER COUNTY (WWAY) — A group held a meeting Tuesday afternoon to discuss New Hanover County Schools’ decision to close a public alternative high school at the end of the current school year.
The meeting was held by the New Hanover County Hispanic-Latino Commission and a New Hanover County School Board Member to discuss the impacts of the upcoming closure of the Career Readiness Academy at Mosley PLC.
35 out of 62 students enrolled at Mosley identify as Hispanic or Latino, leaving many wondering where these students will go. Plans are in place for current students to go and tour potential schools, such as early colleges or tech schools. Those schools mirror small settings like Mosley, which according to the New Hanover County Hispanic Latino Commission is a good thing.
“We are happy to see that there is some thought put into place to support the student. We are happy to hear that conversations continue,” said Edelmira Segovia with the commission.
Ideas were discussed about Mosley being used as a newcomer school in the future, but nothing is confirmed at this point.
