NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Law enforcement served up breakfast and lunch Thursday for a good cause.

Deputies for the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office were at Sawmill Cafe on Castle Hayne Road as part of their ‘tip a cop’ campaign.

The $1,990 raised from the event is going to the North Carolina Special Olympics.

Corporal Gene Moore says the Sheriff’s Office is proud to support Special Olympics athletes.

“It’s very important to the sheriff’s office because if you’ve ever spent any time with the athletes at all, you know that everything that they do is funded on donations,” Moore said.

The North Carolina Special Olympics summer games will kick off in the Raleigh area on May 31st.
