New Hanover football receives state championship rings

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Tonight was a special night for the members of the New Hanover Wildcat Football Team. As an athlete, you dream of the day you get your championship ring. That dream came true for the state champs today.

Brogden Hall was packed with friends, family and the state champion Wildcat football team as the school unveiled their new banner and their flashy new pieces of jewelry.

The ring is a symbol of the hard work and dedication that this particular group of Wildcats put in that culminated in a 15-1 season and a victory at duke University in the state title game.

There was nothing but excitement on the faces of these kids as they seal themselves in New Hanover history forever.

“It’s beautiful, I love it,” New Hanover Senior Nas Brown said. “I get to have kids later and show them later on what to fight for. This is all glory and great to have.”

“It’s just all of the dreams coming along,” New Hanover Senior Francis Meehan said. “For a while you would replay it in your head and ask if it actually happened. Having this ring now shows that all this hard work really payed off.”>
