New solution introduced for Holden Beach Pier repairs

HOLDEN BEACH, NC (WWAY)– Holden Beach Commissioners are considering a new solution for fixing the town’s damaged pier.

Tearing it down, and building a new one.

Commissioners discussed that solution at the January 16th meeting.

A petition is making the rounds against tearing down the pier due to its historic value.

The pier has been closed to the public for months due to damage from storms.

Prior to this latest possible solution, the town was considering three other options to cover the high cost of fixing the pier. Adjusting the budget to match the increased cost, negotiating the cost of repairs with bidders, or reducing the size of the project and taking new bids.

Holden Beach Mayor Alan Holden says all of the options are being considered, but none have been approved.
