Even when the rugged expanses of the Great Smoky Mountains were bursting with their famous fall colors, they always looked dull black and tawny to Lauren Van Lew from the 3,590-foot-high perch of Mt. Harrison.
The peak of fall color is still to come in the mountains of western North Carolina in this first full weekend of October.
The fantastic weather over the long Columbus Day weekend was ideal for tourists visiting the area to see the fall foliage and in the Poconos. At least one resort is providing a different view of the leaves.
If you've ever visited the western part of the state during the fall, no doubt you were in awe over the beautiful red, gold and yellow leaves. Even though we just said good-bye to summer, some leaves are already changing in Asheville.
