Man heading to CLT to face federal charges in Vegas drug luggage case
LAS VEGAS (AP) – Authorities say a passenger faces a federal drug trafficking charge after he was arrested at the airport in Las Vegas with several pounds of drugs in his checked luggage.
Nevada Highway Patrol Sgt. Anthony Munoz said Friday the street value of the drugs was about $200,000.
Munoz said the man’s name wasn’t immediately made public to allow U.S. Drug Enforcement agents to confirm his identity.
The departure of an American Airlines flight to Charlotte, North Carolina, was delayed at McCarron International Airport while the arrest was made Sunday morning by local, state and federal officers in a regional drug interdiction team.
Munoz said the man’s bag contained almost 5 pounds of a substance believed to be heroin and about 2.25 pounds of what investigators believe was cocaine.
