Northeastern edges UNCW in women’s soccer season finale, 1-0

WILMINGTON, North Carolina (UNCWSports.com) – Junior forward Nicole Gorman scored the game’s only goal in the 10th minute as Northeastern secured a 1-0 Colonial Athletic Association victory over UNCW in the regular season finale for both teams at UNCW Soccer Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The win allowed the Huskies (11-5-3) to finish in third place in the league standings with a 5-1-3 mark and host Charleston in a CAA quarterfinal game next Sunday. UNCW, meanwhile, saw its season come to a close after dropping to 6-11-2 overall and 2-6-1 in the CAA.

Gorman, who tallied her fourth goal of the season, gave Northeastern the one-goal advantage just 9:13 into the first half when she hit a one-timer into the upper left corner off a crossing pass from senior forward Kayla Cappuzzo.

Led by junior goalkeeper Nathalie Nidetch’s nine saves, the Huskies kept UNCW from tying the game.

Freshman goalkeeper Sydney Schneider made three saves in the loss for the Seahawks, who outshot Northeastern by a 16-12 margin.
