NWS: EF1 Tornado touched down outside Conway Monday night
Conway, S.C. (WPDE) — A tornado caused damage along Old Reaves Ferry Road near Highway 90 Monday night, according to the National Weather Service.
The damage was close to Highway 90 and Steve Pfaff, with the National Weather Service, originally said it could have been straight-line winds, but now says it was a tornado.
The EF-1 tornado had winds of 95 mph and touched down nine miles north east of Conway last night at 10:27 p.m., according to the NWS.
The tornado touched down near the intersection of Old Reaves Ferry Road and Inman Circle, which is where our crew spotted several downed trees Tuesday afternoon.
Numerous trees up to 16 inches in diameter were snapped, and many large limbs were also broken out of the tree tops. A window was blown out of a garage located on the east side of Inman Circle, and the garage door buckled slightly, according to weather service reports.
The tornado tracked northeast for 0.6 miles and was estimated to be on the ground for less than two minutes. Its maximum width was 75 yards.
A tornado warning was issued for part of Southeastern North Carolina last night but NWS said they didn’t receive any damage reports. Wind damage was reported in Columbus County.
