Oak Island beach nourishment project is underway

OAK ISLAND, NC (WWAY) — The Town of Oak Island says as of 4:30 p.m. on Friday, the Hopper Dredge RB WEEKS have begun active dredging and sand placement.
The operations are in the area of 37th Place E to SE 43rd Street as part of the 2025/2026 Oak Island Beach Nourishment Project.
The town says, work for this project will be conducted 24 hours per day resulting in effects which may include loud noises, moving machinery, ground vibrations, and closed beach areas.
For safety reasons, the town asks everyone to respect the boundaries of any closed staging or construction areas and be mindful of crews.
The parking lots for the Kevin Bell Skatepark and the Beach Access Location on SE 49th Street will be closed for project staging.
