Oak Island Fire Department receives smoke alarm donations to provide for residents

OAK ISLAND (WWAY) — The Oak Island Fire Department received a lot of items to be used for its fire prevention efforts.

With the help of Stop Loss, a company that specializes in fire prevention and several local businesses in the area, the Oak Island Fire Department was able to secure several thousand dollars worth of smoke alarms.

The fire department said this will help them raise awareness in the community about having a properly working smoke alarm and helping smaller fire departments get free smoke alarms to distribute.

Shaun Whitley, CEO of Stop Loss said he’s happy to give back and help after spending more than 20 years in fire service.

“I’m able to make the transition from fire service into a full-time fire prevention career as a business. And so, being able to partner with the local fire department and the communities we help serve through donations from our partners is absolutely incredible. It’s fun to be a part of that continuance,” Whitley said.
