OAK ISLAND, NC (WWAY) — Town council has voted in favor of a second hotel project in Oak Island.

Approval for a permit on a project known as Boardwalk Place took place in March of 2023, with council voting Tuesday night 3-2 in favor of another hotel.

A two-hour meeting was held ahead of the vote, with officials saying they wanted to be very thorough before deciding whether to allow the project to move forward.

The new hotel will be known as Ocean Crest Hotel and will not be allowed to sell alcohol or host rooftop events.

It will be located on the same property as the Ocean Crest Pier on East Beach Drive.
