One dead after police-involved shooting near Greenville
PITT COUNTY, NC (WCTI) – One person is dead after an officer-involved shooting in Pitt County early Sunday morning.
Greenville Police responded to the 700 block of Fox Chase Lane just before 2 a.m. after receiving a report of a domestic-related stabbing.
According to a news release from the Greenville Police Department, the first officer who arrived on scene found the suspect, a 41-year-old male, holding a large knife. The officer asked him to drop the knife and the suspect did not comply. The suspect then advanced on the officer with the knife and the officer drew his work-issued firearm and shot and killed the suspect.
The stabbing victim was taken to Vidant Medical Center with life threatening injuries. Her condition is unknown at this time.
Greenville Mayor PJ Connelly released the following statement on the shooting.
“My thoughts and prayers are with those affected by the incident that occurred early this morning on Fox Chase Lane. Any loss of life in our city is a tragedy, and the City of Greenville and the Greenville Police Department will cooperate fully with the State Bureau of Investigation as they conduct their investigation.”
The names of those involved in the incident will be released at a later time.
