One killed in late night Chadbourn shooting, mayor reacts
CHADBOURN, NC (WWAY) — Authorities are investigating a triple shooting in Chadbourn.
The Columbus County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 500 block of Dessie Road in reference to shots fired around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday.
CCSO says one person was found dead and two others injured. The two hurt were taken to the hospital for treatment.
The sheriff’s office has not released the identity of the person killed.
This comes a little more than two months after a shooting in Chadbourn killed three people. Mayor Phillip Britt reacting.
“It comes in trends, it seems that we have violence when a group of people start to clash, it seems like they’ll have more than one clash before the violence stops,” he said.
Britt says although this latest incident happened outside city limits, the town takes all violence seriously.
“In the last meeting we voted to add additional police officers to our force, we voted to add camera systems so that we can catch the crimes when they’re happening in our high crime areas,” Britt said. “So we’re actually being proactive and reactive to what’s going on so we are moving forward to take measures to try and stop the crime.”
Britt also gave an update on the search for a new police chief, after former chief Anthony Spivey was arrested in April.
“We have accepted some applications for the positions,” Britt said. “Right now Ken Elliott is still our interim chief and he’s doing a fine job.”
