ONLY ON 3: Woman robbed of wedding rings 1 year after losing husband

HAMPSTEAD, NC (WWAY) — A Pender County family mourning the loss of a husband and father, is dealing with more heartache after they say someone broke into their home and stole several precious items.

“My mom lost more than I did, but what we lost is stuff that we cannot get back,” Abby Deal said.

Riana Deal and her daughter Abby said they have had a very tough year. Nearly a year ago, Riana’s husband passed away from a heart attack. She said the items he left behind are the only things that get her through the pain.

“When you lose someone, you always want to grab a hold of everything that has anything to do with that person,” Deal said. “It becomes sacred to you.”

One of the sacred items Deal said was stolen from her home was her wedding rings.

“Those represent our marriage, ya know,” Deal said. “Our circle of life together, and they ripped just about the rest of my heart when they took those rings.”

Aside from her wedding set, she said an intruder also stole necklaces, medication, and another ring that was handed down to her daughter Abby when her grandmother passed away.

“The items that were taken from us are from people that are no longer here,” Abby said. “They’re irreplaceable.”

Deal said she filed a police report and hopes they can find the person or people responsible.

“I just wish that whoever has our stuff would just return it,” Deal said.

WWAY also reached out to the Pender County Sheriff’s Office about this case. A woman at the front desk said they will have more information on specific police reports Monday morning.
