Outlander author Diana Gabaldon to visit Pender County for 250th anniversary at Moores Creek

PENDER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) –Bestselling Outlander author Diana Gabaldon will visit Pender County during the North Carolina First in Freedom Festival as the region marks the 250th anniversary of the Battle of Moores Creek Bridge.
Festival organizers announced the visit as part of a series of events commemorating southeastern North Carolina’s role in the American Revolution. Moores Creek National Battlefield, alongside the Moores Creek Battleground Association and other partners, will host special programming tied to Gabaldon’s appearance.
Gabaldon’s popular historical novels highlight the Revolutionary War era in North Carolina, including events surrounding Moores Creek. Her visit comes as the state prepares for the 250th anniversary of America’s independence in 2026.
“Diana Gabaldon’s work has inspired countless readers to connect with North Carolina’s Revolutionary past,” Jim Buell, chairperson of the North Carolina First in Freedom Festival, said in a statement. “We are honored to welcome her to Pender County during this historic commemoration.”
The Battle of Moores Creek Bridge in 1776 is considered the first significant Patriot victory of the Revolutionary War, helping secure North Carolina’s early support for independence.
Details for Gabaldon’s public schedule, including book signings and speaking events, will be released in the coming weeks. Visitors are encouraged to explore Moores Creek National Battlefield and participate in commemorative events throughout the festival.
