OCRACOKE, NC (WWAY) — Highway 12 on the north end of Ocracoke remained closed Monday morning, days after Hurricane Erin passed by.

The NCDOT says they did not receive any substantial ocean over wash Sunday night, but the high tide did erode the new dune a bit.

Crews are working to fortify the dunes more to protect the roadway, and hoping the incoming high tide is lower than recent days.

But an afternoon update says NC 12 on Ocracoke Island will reopen around 5:00 p.m. Monday afternoon.

The Hatteras-Ocracoke vehicle ferry will also begin service beginning at 5:00 p.m., with an amended schedule tonight followed by a full schedule Tuesday morning.
