Pender County company creates structures for Super Bowl
ROCKY POINT, NC (WWAY) — We see them every year for almost every major event.
They are the extravagant stages that are seen at places like the Inauguration and even the Super Bowl.
It turns out some are made right here in the Cape Fear.
A few weeks ago Filmwerks, a company located in Rocky Point, built several of the stages and structures that Fox Network is using for the Super Bowl in Houston.
“I think we have nine different elements of some significance where there’s actually live broadcasts coming from somewhere in Houston at this time. All built here.” Filmwerks President Michael Satrazemis said.
Of those nine elements, it includes the stages at the stadium, the power and lighting for the structures and even the grass practice field.
Each element was created right here in Filmwerks warehouses in Rocky Point, by employees from the Cape Fear.
“The work ethic, the crews, the guys that have been involved with us some of us up to 25 years are just super,” Satrazemis said “I don’t know where else you can find people as good as you can find here.”
This isn’t the only major event that Filmwerks works on. In addition to the Super Bowl in Houston, they have worked for Major League Baseball, CBS Sports and even the past Inauguration.
“To be able to look up at the screen and know that millions, if not tens of millions of people, are looking at images that are being produced from something that you built to enhance that production, it’s a lot of pride.” Satrazemis said.
Michael Satrazemis says that for a business standpoint, being in Rocky Point makes things more difficult, but there’s no place he’d rather be.
After Filmwerks finishes up in Houston, one of their next major projects will be for the Wells Fargo Championship golf tournament happening right here in Wilmington.
