Police ID man killed in Wilmington moped crash

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Police have identified the man who died in a moped crash over the weekend in Wilmington.

The Wilmington Police Department says Timothy John Regan died following the accident in the 400 block of South College Road early Saturday morning.

Police say the 36-year-old man was driving the moped was traveling south on S. College Rd. when he failed to maintain his lane. He then drove onto the median, and was thrown from the moped.

The driver was transported to New Hanover Regional Medical Center in critical condition, where he later died from his injuries.

Drugs and/or alcohol may have been factors in the crash, according to WPD.

Investigators with WPD say they are still working on pinpointing his speed, but witnesses estimated 45-50 mph.
