Police: Two arrested after car and foot chase, found with 6 pounds of pot

PENDER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Two men are behind bars after Burgaw Police say they were led on a car chase Sunday and then found several pounds of marijuana inside that vehicle.

On Sunday, a Burgaw Police Officer attempted to stop a car for a speeding but once the officer tried to do so the driver sped up to get away. The chase continued out of Burgaw and into the Rocky Point area of Pender County and ended on Little Kelly Road. The suspect’s eventually wrecked the car and ran into a wooded area.

The Pender County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division and K-9 assisted the Burgaw Police officer in the search for the two suspects. After a short period of time, both suspects were located and taken into custody.

Inside the car, they found almost 6 pounds of marijuana and more than $51,000.

The driver was Antoine Keith Sims, a 19-year-old from Lawrenceville, Georgia. He was charged felony Possession of Marijuana, felony Flee/Elude Arrest with a Motor Vehicle, felony Possession with Intent to Manufacture/Sell/Deliver Marijuana, felony Manufacture Marijuana, felony Maintain a Vehicle/Dwelling/Place for Controlled Substance, Possession of Marijuana Paraphernalia and numerous other traffic violations. Sims was given a $100,000 secured bond.

The passenger, Tyshawn Jermel Cooper, a 20-year-old also from Lawrenceville, Georgia was charged with felony Possession of Marijuana, felony Flee/Elude Arrest with a Motor Vehicle, felony Possession with Intent to Manufacture/Sell/Deliver Marijuana, felony
Manufacture Marijuana, felony Maintain a Vehicle/Dwelling/Place for Controlled Substance, and Possession of Marijuana Paraphernalia. Cooper was given a $75,000 secured bond.

This is an ongoing investigation.
