‘Pour’ over these cold facts on National Drink Beer Day

To celebrate National Drink Beer Day on Thursday, belly up to the bar, grab a snack and drink in these statistics:

According to researchers at National Today, which commemorates fun holidays, they asked 2,000 Americans about beer.

Among their findings:

▪ Beer is America’s favorite drink to order at a bar.

▪ 36 percent of Americans say beer is their preferred drink when meeting friends at a bar. Margaritas (17 percent) and wine (13 percent) are next, while cosmopolitans (5 percent) and gin and tonics (4 percent) round out the top 5.

 ▪ 67 percent of Americans prefer domestic beer, while 33 percent prefer imported beer.

Craft beers continue to grow in popularity.

According to the Brewers Association, the number of U.S. craft breweries has increased from eight in 1980 to 5,562 in 2017.

For 2016, the association compiled state-by-state data about craft breweries. Its findings revealed that California had the most in the nation, with 623 producing more than 3.2 million barrels of suds.
