Public hearing today on proposed Columbus Regional East hospital in Delco

WHITEVILLE, NC (WWAY) — A public hearing will be held today to gather input on a proposal that would relocate hospital beds and an operating room to build a new medical facility in Delco.

Columbus Regional Healthcare System has filed a certificate of need application with the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services to move 30 acute care beds and one operating room to develop a new hospital known as Columbus Regional East.

The proposed project carries an estimated cost of $214.7 million and would be completed in October 2029, according to the application.

The hearing is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on Friday, December 19 at the Columbus County Public Library, located at 407 N. J.K. Powell Blvd. in Whiteville. Members of the public may attend and provide comments on the proposal.
