Public hearings on Carolina Bays Parkway Extension postponed due to potential storm threat

SUNSET BEACH, NC (WWAY) — The North Carolina Department of Transportation and South Carolina Department of Transportation have postponed upcoming public hearings on the proposed Carolina Bays Parkway Extension due to forecasted weather early next week.
Officials say the meetings will be rescheduled for a later date and the public will be notified once new dates are confirmed.
The hearings were originally scheduled for Monday at the Sea Trail Convention Center in Sunset Beach, and Tuesday at the North Strand Recreation Center in Longs, South Carolina.
The Carolina Bays Parkway Extension would extend S.C. 31 from its current end at S.C. 9 in Horry County across the state line to U.S. 17 near Shallotte. The proposed multi-lane freeway is designed to improve traffic flow, mobility, and regional connectivity.
