Raleigh panel to review recommendations on police policies

RALEIGH, NC (AP) — Raleigh’s human relations commission says it will review a list of recommendations on how to improve relationships between the public and the city’s police department.

The News & Observer of Raleigh reported the suggestions include body cameras for all police officers and a greater emphasis on community policing.

The human relations commission considered the proposals by the new Police Accountability Community Task Force on Thursday evening.

The task force also recommended that an internship program be created to recruit and retain minority officers. It also suggests a community oversight board that could investigate, subpoena and discipline officers if there is an injustice.

The proposals come less than two weeks after a Raleigh police officer shot a 24-year-old man while trying to arrest him.
