Reminder to protect plants, pets, pipes as coldest air since last winter arrives

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — We’ve had some chilly nights over the last few weeks, but nothing compared to what’s on the way Tuesday night.
The forecast calls for lows well into the lower to middle 20s.
That would mark the coldest air since early February — nearly 10 months ago.
With the frigid air on the way, it’s a good time to remember to bring in your plants and pets to protect them from the cold.
CFPUA says to help prevent pipes from bursting, you can drain water from outdoor plumbing and wrap pipes, or allow a trickle of water to run through the system. In addition, you should temporarily turn off and drain irrigation systems.
Coastal areas of Brunswick and Pender County, and all of New Hanover County, will see a Freeze Warning go into effect at 11:00 p.m. Tuesday.
