Residents react to KKK fliers

WINNABOW, NC (WWAY) — The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after Winnabow residents reported bags of rice sitting in their driveways over the weekend apparently from the KKK.

Wilma Robins received one of those bags from local KKK branch Karolina Knights Sunday morning. Robins said at first glace she didn’t know what it was.

“I saw something laying in my yard and I walked out there to pick it up,” Robin said. “It doesn’t say KKK on it. It says Karolina Knights.”

Spokeswoman Emily Flax with the Sheriff’s Office says they collected 130 bags from streets, ditches, and driveways in the Winnabow area.

The grand dragon of the Loyal White Knights says they go on “knight rides” and distribute bags of rice with flyers in them to let people know they are in the area and a way to recruit.

“Looking out for their rights like I try to tell people Loyal White Knights of the Ku Klux Klan were the same as in basically the NAACP we look out for white people rights just as the NAACP does for black, so we are basically a civil rights group,” said Jones.

Robins says she wasn’t offended, but added it’s the matter of opinion.
