River cresting expected through next week following heavy rainfall
CAPE FEAR, NC (WWAY) — Heavy rains from what was Tropical Storm Debby earlier this week are expected to continue flooding waterways, canals, and ditches across the Cape Fear for the next several days.
The National Weather Service said the areas most affected will be the Northeast Cape Fear River near Burgaw, and the lower Cape Fear River in downtown Wilmington.
Some river cresting is expected from now until Wednesday as all of the stormwater drains into surrounding waterways.
The NWS said the rise in water levels is expected to be much less than previous storms like Hurricane Florence in 2018.
