Royalty crowned CAA Pitcher-of-the-Week

WILMINGTON, North Carolina (UNCWSports.com) – UNCW sophomore Alex Royalty was named Colonial Athletic Association Pitcher-of-the-Week after tossing eight shutout innings against Towson last Thursday to open the final conference series of the season.

Royalty, who was also named CAA Pitcher-of-the-Week earlier this season on Apr. 10, allowed just four hits, walked none and struck out eight in matching his career-long of eight innings as UNCW knocked off the Tigers 8-0.

Royalty improved to 8-2 with the win, matching his record from last season. The righthander also dropped his earned run average to 3.37.

The Tigers managed to get just one batter in scoring position against Royalty and that came in the first inning on a leadoff double.

The Seahawks open play in this week’s conference tournament on Thursday against the winner of William & Mary and Elon. Royalty enters the postseason leading the CAA in wins (8), innings pitched (90.2) and tied for the lead with 98 strikeouts.
