Safety grades for local hospitals released

CAPE FEAR, NC (WWAY) — Spring 2025 hospital safety grades have been released by Leapfrog.
Scoring is determined using up to thirty national performance measures from the centers for Medicare and Medicaid services, the Leapfrog Hospital Survey, and information from other supplemental data sources.
Columbus Regional Healthcare System received an overall grade of C for hospital safety.
Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington received a C, but Novant Health Brunswick Medical Center in Bolivia received an A.
A Novant Health spokesperson released the following statement on the grades:
“At the heart of everything we do is a deep commitment to providing safe, high-quality care to every individual who entrusts us with their health. While the most recent Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade reflects data collected over a five-year rolling period, it does not fully capture the significant progress we’ve made in recent months to enhance patient safety indicators and overall quality of care. We are steadfast in our efforts to continuously improve and more importantly, remain focused on delivering the highest standards of care to meet—and exceed—the needs and expectations of our patients.”
