SC GOP Candidate in need of additional surgery after deadly crash
CHARLESTON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) – The Charleston County Coroner’s Office says a Ravenel woman died in the crash that critically injured GOP Congressional Candidate Katie Arrington and another woman Friday night.
The crash happened last night at 9 P.M. in Adams Run on highway 17 near the 7400 block. Dispatchers tell our sister station WCSC the road has since re-opened.
Charleston County deputies say Arrington and her friend, Jacqueline Goff, were heading south on Highway 17 when the driver of another car heading in the wrong direction crashed into them. Authorities tell the the driver of that other car died. Arrington and her friend were both seriously hurt.
Arrington just recently won the GOP nomination for the U.S. House of Representatives in South Carolina’s 1st Congressional District defeating longtime incumbent and former South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford.
Helen White, 69, died in the crash, according to Charleston County Deputy Coroner Bobby Jo O’Neal. The cause of White’s death was pending an autopsy.
Arrington’s campaign manager released a statement saying, “She’s out of surgery and is recovering. Katie’s family ask that everyone please keep the deceased and her family in their prayers, as well as prayers for a speedy recovery for Katie and her friend.”
Katie Arrington remains in critical but stable condition, and is scheduled to undergo another major surgical procedure tomorrow morning. She remains humbled, encouraged, and deeply moved by the outpouring of support and prayers being offered from across the country. #PrayForKatie
