SC man dies in hospital after 15-hour standoff with deputies

CHESTERFIELD, SC (AP) — A South Carolina man is dead after a 15-hour standoff ends in gunfire.

The Florence County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the officer-involved shooting and SWAT situation that ended Saturday afternoon. The man was barricaded inside a home outside of Chesterfield and authorities say he shot at deputies multiple times during negotiations.

Authorities say the fatal exchange of gunfire was sparked after the man came out of the home with a firearm. The sheriff’s department says officers returned fire. A State Law Enforcement Division SWAT team was also on the scene.

He was taken to the hospital but died from his injuries. The man’s name has not been released.
