New look Seahawks sportin' the yellow and a new logo dominate Elon

There's a new excitement brewing at UNC Wilmington in regard to the men's basketball team. As of Wednesday the excitement involves a new sports logo and bright yellow uniforms. Steamrolling UNCW rattled CAA newcomer Elon early and blew past the Phoenix, 82-65, in the first Colonial matchup between the two state foes Wednesday night at Trask Coliseum.

MLK Jamfest wraps up at Union High

videoUnion High School served as the host location for the MLK Basketball Jamfest on Monday. This is a boys high school event only that featured seven games with several local teams participating.

UNCW holds off Liberty in OT

videoUNCW head basketball coach Kevin Keatts said last year's UNCW team would have found a way to lose Wednesday's home game against the Liberty Flames. As it turns out, UNCW won a sloppy, physical game in overtime to improve to 4-3 on the season. The game was highlighted by a handful of dunks. We hope you get a chance to check out the rim rockers on our video. On Wednesday we also showcased BCC men's hoops, UNCW women's basketball and Laney wrestling.

UNCW more than holds their own with Louisville

videoMost basketball fans expected 4th ranked Louisville to pounce on UNCW. Louisville did win on Sunday night, but the game proved to be much closer than expected. In fact UNCW pulled within two points of the Cardinals late in the second half, yet Rick Pitino's club pulled away at the end to win by double digits. UNCW head coach Kevin Keatts is a former assistant coach at Louisville. Check out our game highlights tonight at 11pm on WWAY.

Officials announce 1,300 jobs coming to Wilmington

videoGovernor Pat McCrory announced this afternoon that Vertex Rail will be adding 1,300 new jobs at the former Terex Crane facility located on Raleigh Street in Wilmington. The company will manufacture rail tank cars which are in high demand to transport crude oil from North Dakota, Texas and other energy-producing states.

First round of boys soccer playoffs complete

videoThe first round of the soccer playoffs concluded on Wednesday night all around the state. The majority of our local squads won. Winners advance to the second round of the state playoffs later this week. Plus, we checked in with former UNCW Seahawk basketball standout Adam Smith on Wednesday. Smith now plays basketball at Virginia Tech.

One area high school team won a state title on Saturday. Several other high school squads had their state title dreams crushed. Congratulations to the Wilmington Christian Acadeny volleyball squad for back to back state titles in volleyball. The Landfall Tradition is over. Wake Forest won with a record setting performance. UNCW won their home regular season finale on Saturday in men's soccer. The Seahawks are back in first place in the CAA. Plus more!

videoMedia Day, one of the long traditions in college basketball, took place on Wednesday for Kevin Keatts and the 2014-15 UNCW Seahawks. We were there in order to check out this year's team. Former South Columbus football standout Ethan Farmer says the UNC Tar Heel defense will continue to make progress. Former East Columbus football standout Joe Gore will have to sit out the next two games for the Clemson Tigers. Plus more sports!
