SURF CITY, NC (WWAY) — A second mural was unveiled in the Town of Surf City to help add some life and vibrancy at one of the beaches access points.

The mural follows the theme of “A Day at the Beach” and was done by artist Jennifer Wood. The mural features many natives creatures such as birds, fish, crabs and more. Its located at Kinston Avenue at Beach Access #19. The idea of public mural projects came two years ago from former mayor Doug Medlin. The first mural was done last year underneath the Surf City Island water tower. Sandi Monroe, Chairperson of Beautification and Enhancement Committee of Surf City, said the murals add so much life to the town.

“Public art definitely adds an element of beauty and excitement to any community. It allows you to interact with the space, it shows the history and the beauty of the area.”

Surf City is in already in the process of looking for more walls to paint and hope to continue to feature more local North Carolina artists with up coming projects.
