Several people arrested during recent Columbus County nighttime checking station

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Several people were arrested on various charges during a recent overnight checking station in Columbus County.

Eleven outstanding felony warrants were served from the evening of February 19th through the early morning of February 20th.

Around 5:00 p.m. on February 19th, the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office says they received a call regarding a wanted person attempting to leave the state. Deputies arrived to the Hallsboro home and say they noticed a baggie containing an amount of methamphetamine. They say they later located an additional amount of methamphetamine and an amount of marijuana.

Deputies say the methamphetamine was located in a purse belonging to Arden Parmenter, 56, of Hallsboro.

Curtis Ray Jacobs, 51, was also in the home and was found to have several outstanding warrants, according to deputies. Jacobs was also placed into handcuffs and detained.

Parmenter was served warrants and processed. Jacobs was served with his outstanding processes. He received a $12,000 secured bond. Parmenter was charged with one felony count Possession with Intent to Manufacture Sell and Deliver Methamphetamine, one felony count Possession with Intent to Manufacture Sell and Deliver Marijuana, one felony count Maintaining a Dwelling for Keeping and Selling Controlled Substances, and one misdemeanor count Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Parmenter received a $6,000 secured bond.

Around 1:00 a.m. on February 20th, deputies were on saturation patrol in the Green Acres community near Tabor City. While sitting at the intersection of Green Acres Road and Pine Circle Drive on the south end of the community, deputies say they heard a gunshot within close proximity. Deputies began driving in the direction of the gunshot when they observed a female yelling while walking down the road. Deputies say the female pointed at a residence where a male was standing on the porch stating he was shooting at her. Deputies then went to the residence to speak with the male. While speaking to the male subject deputies observed one of his hands were bleeding. He stated he didn’t know what happened to his hands.

Deputies secured the firearm from Amos Earl Strickland, 65, and found that Strickland was a convicted felon. Strickland was transported to Columbus County Law Enforcement Center where probable cause for arrest was found. Strickland was charged with one felony count of Possession of a Firearm by Felon, with a $5,000 secured bond.
