Severe Weather Awareness Week reminds of Mother Nature’s dangers

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — This week marks Severe Weather Awareness Week. Here in the Carolinas, there’s plenty of weather we need to be prepared for.

It’s typically held in the first part of March, ahead of when we see a more active severe weather period in southeastern North Carolina during the spring.

The goal is to make sure people have a plan for when storms hit. Tornadoes, large hail, strong winds, heavy rain, and lightning are all hazards associated with severe weather–and all phenomenons which have been reported across the country. Therefore, no matter where you are, it’s important to be prepared.

There will be a statewide tornado drill this Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. Schools and government buildings will test their plans as they would during an actual tornado.

Of course, WWAY’s StormTrack3 mobile app is another great way to get updates on severe weather at any time, right in the palm of your hand.
