Shallotte woman now facing 90 child sex crime charges

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A Shallotte woman arrested in February faces more child sex crimes charges.

Sara Jean Sellers, 44, was charged on March 21 with eight counts of Third Degree Sexual Exploitation of a Minor and two counts of Indecent Liberties with a Child. These new charges are tied to incidents that allegedly took place in 2018 and 2021, involving a 15-year-old and 12-year-old.

In February, Sellers was charged with 20 counts of Statutory Rape of a Child under the age of 15, 20 counts of Indecent Liberties with a Child, 10 counts of Statutory Sex Offense with a child by an adult, 20 counts of Statutory Sex Offense with a Child under 15, and 10 counts of Statutory Rape of a Child by adult.

Those charges are tied to alleged sex crimes that happened in 2018 and 2019 and involved a 12-year-old. In a court appearance for those charges, the defense stated that Sellers has been married for 22 years and has two daughters.

She is being held in the Brunswick County Detention Center under a more than $2,000,000 bond.
