Skywatch Bird Rescue receives first baby birds of the season

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — It appears baby bird season is now underway, as Skywatch Bird Rescue just received its first nestlings of the year.
The rescue took in a nestling great horned owl and two nestling mourning doves on Thursday after strong winds earlier in the week blew them from their nests, the organization said in a statement.
“Renesting is always our first course of action — nobody raises babies better than their own parents — but sadly that was not doable in these cases due to the storm damage,” Skywatch Bird Rescue said. “We will take over raising them from here!”
The organization is reminding the public to call its hotline before attempting to intervene with baby birds, as some may not need help. Those who find a young bird can reach Skywatch Bird Rescue at 1-855-40-RESCU (73728).
To support the rescue’s work this season, Skywatch is raising money to buy two new incubators, which are crucial for caring for nestlings. You can find more details on the organization’s social media page.
