Some parents glad schools closed early in preparation for Tropical Storm Hermine
PENDER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) – Several schools and colleges have closed their doors early today as tropical storm Hermine picks up across our coast.
Some parents in our area say that’s a good thing as the roads begin to flood, especially with EMS officials urging drivers to stay off the road if possible.
The Pender County Office of Emergency Management has been preparing for Tropical Storm Hermine for a few days now.
Now that it’s finally here, they’re urging drivers and visitors to stay off the roads as the rain keeps pouring down, causing more than four inches of standing water so far.
Some parents are glad the schools took action and called for an early release this afternoon.
“We got a call last night saying they were going to actually delay schools for two hours which I thought was a good idea, not annoyed with it at all,” said Natasha Tolliver. “I’m glad they’re looking out for kids safety.”
Even without the storm, officials say Surf City’s roads tend to flood easily.
