Spills send 30,000 gallons of sewage into ocean in Kure Beach
KURE BEACH, NC (WWAY) — The Town of Kure Beach says an estimated 30,000 gallons of raw sewage spilled into the Atlantic Ocean during Sunday’s heavy rain.
The town says about 25,000 gallons spilled at the manhole at the intersection of Fort Fisher Boulevard South and H Avenue and another 5,000 gallons at the manhole in the 100 block of K Avenue. The pump station located at H Avenue was repaired within two hours and placed back into service.
The town says due to the severity of the storm, it took several hours to contain the sewer release.
