State agencies warn of online fishing license scams

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — If you’re in need of a fishing license, beware of online scams.

Two state agencies are warning about private websites that appear to sell a state fishing license.

The Division of Marine Fisheries and Wildlife Resource Commission say the only place to buy a recreational fishing license online is through the commission’s website.

The agencies have received complaints about at least three private websites.

You can also buy a license through many sport shops and bait and tackle stores.
