Subtropical Depression One forms in the Atlantic


WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The 2017 hurricane season is getting off to an early start this year. Subtropical Depression One has formed in the eastern Atlantic, but is no threat to land, according to the National Hurricane Center.

Subtropical Depression One was centered between Bermuda and the Azores as of Wednesday morning with maximum sustained winds of 35 mph.

The NHC says there’s not much change is strength expected today.

This first subtropical depression comes more than a month before the official start of hurricane season, which is June 1.
