Sunset Beach, N.C. (WWAY)–Sunset Beach Police were called to the Sea Trail Golf Community to respond to an alligator with a soccer ball lodged in its mouth on Sunday.

The alligator was spotted in one of the ponds along the Maples Golf Course.

Sergeant Long, Officer Fisher and Animal Control Officer Arp responded quickly and prepared for a safe intervention.

Fortunately, before any action was taken, the gator gave a roll in the water and dislodged the ball on its own.

It swam away unharmed, though we can’t say the same for the soccer ball which sustained fatal injuries.

If you spot wildlife in distress, you are asked contact non-emergency dispatch at (910) 253-7490.
