Surfers Healing returns to Wrightsville Beach
Organization enriches the lives of people living with autism by exposing them to the unique experience of surfing
NEW HANOVER COUNTY, N.C. (WWAY) – For children with autism, they got a chance to catch some waves and build memories of a lifetime Monday.
Dozens of volunteers come together to host the event free of charge every August in New Hanover County, and travel along the coast to other beaches.
Many children with autism struggle with sensory overload; in other words, simple sensations can overwhelm them. The weightlessness and rhythms of the ocean offer a therapeutic experience, a respite from the constant assault on their senses.
Surfers Healing NC’s goal is to support the mission set forth by Isreal and Danielle Paskowitz.
