Swimmer at Sunset Beach hospitalized following potential shark bite

SUNSET BEACH, NC (WWAY) — A swimmer was taken to the hospital following a potential shark bite in Sunset Beach.

According to the Sunset Beach Fire Department, crews responded to the potential bite just after 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday near the 31st Street beach access point.

A swimmer had injuries to their leg. The victim was conscious and alert.

Beach rescue provided care to their injuries before EMS arrived and transported the victim to the hospital.

The extent of their injuries remains unknown.

“We encourage all visitors to be cautious. Marine life, including sharks, are natural inhabitants of these waters and it’s crucial to take precautions to minimize potential risks,” The Sunset Beach Fire Department said in a statement.
