#TBT: Masonboro Inlet
NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — This Throwback Thursday we’re taking a look back on Masonboro Inlet and Masonboro Sound.
The inlet separates Wrightsville Beach from Masonboro Island, a popular spot for beach-goers especially around holidays like the Fourth of July. You can only get to the island by boat.
During the Civil War, Masonboro Inlet was used as a hideout for Confederate blockade runners. They would wait in the inlet until dark and then head over to the Port of Wilmington.
